Appledown House Country Bed and Breakfast is set in a lovely rural location in the heart of the Devon countryside, just about as far away from the every day stresses and strains of your normal life as you want to be. Inspected by the Dartmoor Partnership, their assessor, David Farrant , said: Appledown House will be a 1st class addition to our membership and is thoroughly recommended. Rooms are comfortable, light and airy ,and well-furnished. Two of the bedrooms (both en-suite with showers) form the detached ground floor annexe and can be interconnected via an adjoining door. The superior twin located in the annexe has its own conservatory where breakfast can be taken overlooking the heated outdoor pool and fabulous views towards Dartmoor. A further double room on the first floor of the main house, which also overlooks the pool and wonderful view, has exclusive use of the bathroom (there are no other occupants of the first floor). We have ample off road parking for all our guests. Our heated outdoor swimming pool (open during the summer) is set in its own terrace within the south facing grounds of just under 3 acres. The northeast paddock is home to our free-range chickens who provide you daily with wholesome fresh eggs for your breakfast. There are several inns in the surrounding area and a variety of different eating experiences are available in nearby Tavistock. Dartmoor is virtually on the doorstep, yet our country retreat is only 3miles from the Stannary town of Tavistock. The house and its gardens border open fields and farmland and the principal guest rooms enjoy wonderful country panoramic views towards Dartmoor and the Bere Peninsula. The City of Plymouth, which boasts its own airport and ferry port, lies just 14 miles to the South whilst the M5 motorway and the Cathedral City of Exeter, with its international airport, can easily be accessed via the A30 dual carriageway. Tavistock is in a uniquely central position making visits to the rest of Devon and to most of Cornwall easy e.g Eden, Heligan,Truro and St Austell, Bideford, Bude and Newquay in under an hour, Plymouth and Looe less than 30 mins.

Appledown House - Directions:
Appledown House ( 01822 610478 www.appledownhouse.com ) is easy to find and is just a short 7 minute drive from Tavistock, in the beautiful Devon countryside. From Tavistock town centre proceed past the Bedford Hotel along the A386 Plymouth Road to Drakes statue roundabout. Take the 2nd exit. At the next mini roundabout, with the SPA shop facing you, take the 2nd exit into Ford Street. At the next mini roundabout take the 1st exit (sharp left) into Spring Hill, signposted Lamerton. Proceed up the hill passing Tavistock Cottage Hospital on your left. Continue along this road for approximately 3 miles into Lamerton. Proceed through the village, passing the Blacksmiths Arrms Public House. After approximately 0.5m (and having passed a left fork signed Chipshop and Gulworthy), turn left at the crossroads also signed Chipshop and Gulworthy. The entrance to Appledown House is on your left.
